JLC Preschool News

Last updated on January 13, 2012.

As I write this article it is just before Christmas and such a fun time to be a preschool teacher. The little ones are so excited about Christmas. This year our JLC preschool students sang three songs about Jesus for our Christmas program, one being Happy Birthday Jesus. If I ask the students what Christmas is, they know it is the birth of Jesus. I asked the preschool families to send in items to share with the needy and many families sent in canned goods, diapers, PJs, etc. The students seemed happy to bring the items in and tell me these are for kids that need things. With the help of our congregation with the needy tree and the preschool adding to the items — 15 children had a much better Christmas thanks to JLC. The families we helped really appreciated it and I feel it is a great example for people to see we want to help them.

In December a load of pop cans was taken to the recycling center and we received $200.00. I want to thank Wayne McCamon for helping organize and sort all for the cans and to Bill and Dusty Wilms for taking the load for us. This money is used for scholarships to our preschool.

January at the preschool we have scheduled a day that the Columbiana children's librarian comes to each of our classes to give a private story time. Pajamas day is also planned for a January event at JLC. The students love this day as they come dressed in PJs and bring a favorite book and stuffed animal and get to watch movies and eat popcorn.

February planned activities art a Valentines day party and bike day. For bike day the students bring bikes/trikes to ride in Luther hall and we collect money to donate to St. Jude's Hospital. Tentatively we also plan to have a soup lunch in the Sunday bulletins. I always appreciate the congregation's support of our annual soup lunch after church services, carry out will be available also.

I want to again thank everyone for your support of JLC preschool. Without your donations of school supplies in September and your support of our soup lunch and pop can recycling we would not be able to continue to operate. I feel that our preschool is a great outreach to the community even if the families do not attend our church, we have shown them the way Christians act and I am sure they will have good memories of their experience at our preschool.
